Question 1

How does the word counter work?

Accepted Answer

It splits your text on whitespace to count words, counts every character for characters, detects sentence-ending punctuation (.!?) for sentences, and splits on blank lines for paragraphs. All processing is instant and happens in your browser.

Question 2

How is reading time calculated?

Accepted Answer

Reading time is estimated by dividing the word count by the reading speed (words per minute). The default is 200 WPM, which is the average adult silent reading speed. Adjust the slider to match your audience.

Question 3

Does the counter include spaces in character count?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the main character count includes spaces. A second figure shows characters excluding spaces.
